Romance of Stone

My passion for jewellery began as a hobby collecting gemstones. For a long time I had been fascinated with the metaphysical properties of stones dug out of the earth. Being involved with healing, I was interested to study the history of gemstones, and while subtle, I have experienced the impact of their healing of myself.
Healing
Healing and empowering the lives of other people were where my life’s journey was taking me. I started to collect particular gemstones for their healing origins, and to soften or defuse those with very strong powers and energy, I blended them with pearls, which have a feminine energy. The feel of this combination to wear and to touch felt gorgeous. Designing items of jewellery was the next step, and to that end, the brand of “JoiaMia” was born. The name translates from Italian to English as “my joy” which is absolutely how I feel about the end result.

Star sign birthstones
Intrigued by birthstones, I researched what the purpose of these stones could be. I found that jewellers recommended expensive precious stones for each birth month and gave a generic description as to what the gemstone essence provided. As another interest of mine is astrology, I have linked each star sign (sun sign) with an inexpensive gemstone and described how that gemstone can assist the bearer of the stone with their life journey.

The real purpose of jewellery
Is there a purpose to jewellery or is it about vanity? The known ancient civilisations like the Egyptians, Mayans and Mesopotamians, all wore jewellery for practical reasons AND
furthermore, jewellery was also worn by men and children, and not just by women.
In those times jewellery was worn as amulets of protection, for healing, enlightenment, and to encourage love and nurture relationships. The shamans also used gemstones for scrying, medical healing and the creation of power. Many of the achievements from past civilisations are still unfathomed today and their artefacts are still being studied in the 21st century. The quest is to understand where we’ve come from and how we can enhance our current lifestyles from “forgotten” achievements.

Lost civilisations
Then there were the lost civilisations like Atlantis, where it is believed that gemstones were used as a major foundation of their civilisation. In particular, quartz was used as an energy source to power their defence weapons for their cities, and to provide energy for their lifestyle. Sounds a bit far-fetched? It’s not when you look at the current day uses of quartz crystal.
The power of quartz
Quartz is the basis of the quartz watch, allowing precision time-keeping, as quartz has a perfect molecular structure and can radiate energy back out at perfect increments. Quartz is also used for this reason in computers.

The application of gemstone jewellery in the 21st century
Today, wearing jewellery is mainly about feeling good about us.
